Driving License Practical Trial Guide (70-Point System 2026)

1. The 70-Point Rule Explained

Under the 2026 guidelines, you no longer need a "perfect" run to pass. You start with 100 points and must maintain at least 70 points to be declared successful. This system distinguishes between minor errors (point deduction) and fatal errors (instant disqualification).

2. Two-Wheeler (Category A/K) Trial Points

Test Element Total Points Deduction Logic
Figure '8' 20 -5 for touching line (max 1 time); Fail if tire goes out or foot touches ground.
Narrow Plank 10 Fail if foot touches ground or tire leaves the plank.
U-Turn 10 -10 for failing to use the side indicator (Turning signal).
Traffic Lights 15 Fail if you violate Red or Yellow light signals.
Speed Breakers 15 -5 if engine shuts off (max 1 time); Fail if foot touches ground.
The Slope (Ramp) 20 Fail if vehicle rolls back >6 inches or engine stops more than once.
Behavioral Test 10 -3 for not checking mirrors/tires; -3 for reckless posture.

3. Four-Wheeler (Category B) Trial Points

4. Instant Disqualification (Fail) Criteria

  • Touching the ground with your foot (Two-wheelers).
  • Ignoring Traffic Police signals or Traffic Lights.
  • Vehicle rolling back significantly on the slope.
  • Touching the boundary lines more than the allowed limit.
  • Engine stopping more than twice (except on the slope where limit is once).

5. Post-Trial Steps

If you pass, your result is updated in the DoTM system within 24 hours. You must pay the License Issuance Fee (NPR 1,500 for bikes / NPR 2,000 for cars) after 3 days. Your digital license will then appear on the Nagarik App within a week.
