3. How to Register
Registration is a continuous process but is typically suspended once an election date is formally announced. If registration is open, follow these steps:
- Step 1: Visit the Center: Go to your District Election Office (DEO), District Administration Office (DAO), or Area Administration Office (AAO).
- Step 2: Documentation: Bring your Original Citizenship Certificate. If your current residence differs from your citizenship address, you must bring a Migration Certificate (Basai Sarai) or Marriage Certificate.
- Step 3: Biometrics: If you do not have an NID, the ECN will take your live photograph and fingerprints.
- Step 4: Verification: You will be given a registration slip. Your name will appear in the next "Preliminary Voter List" for public review.
4. Online Services (ECN Portal)
While you cannot complete biometrics online, the ECN portal allows you to:
- Check Your Name: Visit the ECN Voter Database and enter your Citizenship Number or Voter ID to find your polling station.
- Verify Polling Station: The portal provides the exact ward and school/building where you are assigned to vote.
5. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I vote with my National ID card instead of a Voter ID?
A: During the 2026 General Election, the ECN permitted voters to use their National ID Card or Original Citizenship to vote, provided their name was already on the registered voter list.
Q: Can I change my voting location?
A: Yes, but only during specific "voter list update" windows announced by the ECN. You must provide proof of migration to the new district.
