Social Security Fund (SSF) Guide Nepal 2026
1. What is SSF?
The Social Security Fund is a contribution-based welfare scheme designed to provide lifelong protection to workers. As of 2026, it has grown to cover over 2.5 million contributors, including formal sector employees, migrant workers, and self-employed individuals.
2. Mandatory vs. Voluntary Enrollment
- Formal Sector: Mandatory for all registered private companies, NGOs, and INGOs.
- Migrant Workers: Mandatory enrollment since 2023 for everyone obtaining a new or renewed Labor Permit.
- Informal/Self-Employed: Voluntary enrollment is now open for freelancers, street vendors, and daily-wage laborers.
3. Contribution Structure (31% of Basic Salary)
For formal employees, the 31% monthly contribution is broken down as follows:
| Contributor | Share (%) | Allocation Area |
|---|---|---|
| Employer | 20% | Accident, Disability, Dependent Support & Pension |
| Employee | 11% | Provident Fund (10%) & Social Security Tax (1%) |
*Migrant workers typically contribute a fixed monthly amount based on minimum wage tiers.
4. Key Benefit Schemes in 2026
Health & Maternity
Covers up to NPR 1 Lakh annually for hospital (IPD) and NPR 25,000 for clinic (OPD) visits. Maternity benefits cover 60% of the basic salary during leave.
Accident & Disability

5. How to Track Your Balance
You no longer need to visit the SSF office at Babarmahal. Use these digital tools:
- SSF Mobile App: Log in with your SSF ID (Social Security Number) to see your monthly deposits and interest.
- Nagarik App: Link your SSF account under the 'Financials' section for a quick view.
- Online Portal: Visit sosys.ssf.gov.np for detailed contribution statements.
6. Tax Benefits
Contributors enjoy a 1% social security tax exemption on their contribution amount. Furthermore, you can claim tax deductions on up to NPR 5 Lakhs or one-third of your taxable income (whichever is less).
